- Updated: September 9, 2016
The 2016 Subbuteo World Cup in Belgium saw the England Under 19’s & Under 15’s teams take Bronze Medals after some great performances.
In the Under 19’s, Elliott Bellefontaine (ROY), Kye Arnold (KIV), Chris Bowen (KIV) & Connor Bowden (YOR) grabbed the first ever England team medals for the National Under 19’s squad after reaching the Semi-Final before going out to the eventual winners Belgium.
The Under 15’s squad of Thomas Price, Rhys Williams, Josh Foreman & Conor Atkin (All KIV) grabbed 4th place in the group of 6 with victories over France & Spain giving the Under 15’s Bronze medals.
The Open and Veterans teams gave their all but finished 3rd in their groups in the end. The Open team of Martinelli (YOR), Arnold (KIV), Price (KIV) & Atkin (KIV) did manage a 4-0 win over Japan though whilst the Veterans team of Finch (GSC), Redman (HIT), Daley (YOR) & Bradley (KIV) beat USA 3-0 but narrowly lost 1-2 to Germany halting their progress.
The Individual event saw some tough groups for the England players with Phil Redman the only player in any category making it out of the groups stage before losing to the eventual Veteran’s Champion, Gianfranco Calonico 0-3 in the Last 16.
A massive well done to all the players and special congratulations to our Bronze Medal winners who gave England their 6th & 7th Youth category Bronze Medals in the last 5 World Cups:-
